Christmas Greetings from Scalby Fair

1 December 2022 By Developer

As the new Chairmen of Scalby Fair. I have been advised that it has been a long-established tradition that the Chairman sends out a Christmas Message each year.

Santa pays a visit to Scalby village

I am in fact quite used to spreading Christmas Cheer around Scarborough as I help to get Santa onto the Round Table Sleigh each year in December. Indeed, this year, we started off by stopping at the Nag’s Head to switch on their Christmas lights on the tree that Scalby Fair Committee members had erected for them that day.

So, on behalf of all members of Scalby Fair Committee, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mike Shingler
Chairman

Santa Claus arrives in Scalby!

27 November 2022 By Developer

As usual, members of Scalby Fair Committee assembled to put up and decorate the village Christmas Tree outside the Nag’s Head on Saturday, 26 November.

This year, the tree was enormous, much bigger than usual, so we sought the help of a friendly JCB driver to help with the installation.

Then the magic started. Santa Claus arrived that evening to switch on the lights!

Santa arrived in the village on his sleigh at 6pm to find around two hundred people, of which half were small children, waiting outside the Nag’s Head to greet him.

Santa duly got down from his sleigh to switch the tree lights on. At which point it started to snow!

Santa went to speak to the children and to have his photo taken with them. The parents enjoyed mince pies and mulled cider courtesy of the Nag’s Head.

As he left, Santa promised everyone that he would be back again, to bring presents on Christmas Eve to every child, on his very own magic sleigh.

Scalby Fair Committee would like to thank the Nag’s Head for sponsoring the Christmas Tree and for the seasonal refreshments; and Scarborough Round Table for helping to bring Santa to the village to switch on the lights. And not forgetting our wonderful JCB driver.

As usual, Scalby Fair Committee members will be erecting and installing the Christmas tree outside the Nag’s Head Inn, thanks to a generous donation to the village for the tree by the Nag’s Head.

This year, we are having a BIG Christmas lights switch on, and Father Christmas may even be paying a visit!

Please come along and join in all the festivities this Saturday, 26 November 2022, between 6 and 7pm.
