As usual, members of Scalby Fair Committee assembled to put up and decorate the village Christmas Tree outside the Nag’s Head on Saturday, 26 November.
This year, the tree was enormous, much bigger than usual, so we sought the help of a friendly JCB driver to help with the installation.
Then the magic started. Santa Claus arrived that evening to switch on the lights!
Santa arrived in the village on his sleigh at 6pm to find around two hundred people, of which half were small children, waiting outside the Nag’s Head to greet him.
Santa duly got down from his sleigh to switch the tree lights on. At which point it started to snow!
Santa went to speak to the children and to have his photo taken with them. The parents enjoyed mince pies and mulled cider courtesy of the Nag’s Head.
As he left, Santa promised everyone that he would be back again, to bring presents on Christmas Eve to every child, on his very own magic sleigh.

Scalby Fair Committee would like to thank the Nag’s Head for sponsoring the Christmas Tree and for the seasonal refreshments; and Scarborough Round Table for helping to bring Santa to the village to switch on the lights. And not forgetting our wonderful JCB driver.
