Sharing With the Community.

15 May 2024 By Web Editor

Some of our stallholders are here to highlight the excellent work being undertaken by volunteers in our community.

NEWBY AND SCALBY LIBRARY

Newby and Scalby library is a Community Library run entirely by volunteers on behalf of North Yorkshire Council.  We are a registered charity and the running costs, including utilities, maintenance and special events are paid for by us through fundraising and the sale of second hand books.  Apart from library services, we host a wide range of community based activities and events for all ages, both in the library and in our beautiful garden created with lottery funding.  We are grateful to the public, local organisations and businesses for their ongoing support since we first opened as a Community Library in 2017 and we are delighted to be taking part in Scalby Fair again this year.

NICOLA WATSON: 42ND ST MARK’S SCOUTS.

Hi, we are 42nd St Mark’s Scout Group. Every week we help around 100 local young people aged 4 to 18 develop skills for life, encouraging them to have care, integrity, cooperation, belief and respect for others while having fun. We camp, cook, play games, and work towards many varied awards to give the youngsters a sense of achievement. Our stall at Scalby Fair is to raise awareness and hopefully much needed funds to give our young people as many opportunities as possible.

SCARBOROUGH CAMERA CLUB.

Scarborough Camera Club welcome new members for the 2024/25 season. We meet at the Scalby and Newby Community Centre every Wednesday at 7.30pm to 9.30pm from 2nd October 2024. We also have a programme of summer visits. It doesn’t matter if you have a camera phone, compact camera or more advanced camera. Would you like to move on from holiday snaps to more creative images? Learn how to make images more dynamic or create ones which are more atmospheric for example.

Why not pop along to our stall at Scalby Fair and see what we do?

THE HOSPITAL LEAGUE OF FRIENDS

The League of Friends has been a longstanding supporter of Scarborough Hospital for many years. Our aim is to provide items for comfort and personal care for patients whilst in hospital.
At present we are also raising money to equip a family centred area for overnight stay within the new hospital development.

Stall Holder News.

10 May 2024 By Web Editor

Some of our stall holders are sharing their photos and thoughts about Scalby Fair. What a diverse group and such lovely goods. Over the next few weeks we hope to highlight even more of these.

SAM NOBEL EYECARE

I am again looking forward to being at the Scalby Fair (2024). I have loved, and very much enjoyed, the previous occasions which I have attended. Part of my “Business Ethos” for Sam Noble Eyecare is to support the local community in any way I can manage. I think this is an important way of doing so. But it’s not just one-way traffic. As a local business owner, I get to network with other local businesses and local organisations and can swap ideas and make new contacts. See you there on the day.

BARBARA BINDER

I have made knitting my hobby . 🧶After a busy day I love to sit , relax and let the creative juices flow . It helps me relax . I try to come up with new ideas all the time . My husband things I am addicted as I take my needles with me wherever I go . What does he know .? 😂

Bigger, Better. Even More Fun!

7 May 2024 By Web Editor

You’ve seen our poster with more than a week’s worth of the great events. But what about Scalby Fair Day 2024 itself? We have been able to add some more space to our fair day site and are now able to include room for some food trucks and a new performance area. Lots of your old favourites will be there too. In our new performance area on the green opposite the church gate you can rock and roll with the band Faces, have fun with the quirky act of Phil Bull who will also pop up all around the fair site; listen to folk music and the YMCA choir.

At the crossroads intersection we have the Hatton School of Dancing and Kevin O’Connor’s Irish dancers. All of which will be compered by great friend of the Fair, Magic Mike – who will also perform some of his fabulous magic.

The children’s area will feature Spiderman Yoga and arts and crafts with the YMCA.

Come ready to try some good things to eat from food trucks, barbecue and pizza point.
