Scalby Fair Website is being rebuilt for 2026 and beyond.

After 8 years of faithful service the old website has gone to the web graveyard in the cloud and a new one is being crafted.

  • Scalby Charity Walk Launch

We held our Scalby Charity Walk launch party on Saturday 28th February at the Plough on Scalby High Street. In a fun- filled afternoon our walk mascot CARUT joined us and oversaw activities including colouring Easter pictures and biscuit decorating. Goody bags were handed out.

Thank you to The Plough for offering us the venue and The Yew Tree cafe for providing delicious cupcakes.

This event was held to stimulate interest in the annual Scalby Fair Charity Walk at 10 am on Easter Monday April 6th, this year raising funds for Future Works, Newby and Scalby library and Scarborough Mates.

Why not sign up for the walk, using the form on the website ( link) and be part of a more than sixty year old tradition?  The format will be as usual with a 6 mile walk, calling at The Three Jolly Sailors , The Red Lion, The Blacksmith’s Arms, and The Oak Wheel for refreshing beers or soft drinks.

There is something for everyone, whether you are a serious walker with an eye on the time you achieve or part of the more relaxed group of both people and their dogs strutting their stuff in fancy dress. Come and join the fun, keep fit and help great charities. Carut will be outside The Plough on Scalby High Street to welcome competitors before the walk and we hope to encourage a great crowd for this traditional event.

  • Scalby Charity Walk 2026 – Easter Monday 6 April

Our traditional way to spend Easter Monday, 6 April 2026. Walk to Cloughton, calling at 4 local pubs. Drink half a pint of beer (or a soft drink) at each and head back to the start line. Whether you are a serious walker wanting to beat your PB or you prefer a more sedate pace in fancy dress, you are welcome to join us.

Please ensure you download and read the Walk Rules and Regulations before you proceed to register.

    More about Scalby Charity Walk

Since 1959 the annual Scalby Walk has been raising money for local charities. What started out as a local bet has become a regular feature on the Scalby calendar every Easter Monday (except 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid 19 pandemic).

2026 is the 65th Scalby Walk and will be held on Easter Monday, 6 April 2065. Our competitive walkers will start at 10.00 am. There will be a fancy-dress parade at 10.10 am and then the fun walkers can start any time from 10.30 am to 11.00 am.

Entry in advance is £15 (£17 on the day) for adults and £5 for juniors.

    The rules are simple:

Starting off at the Plough Inn, Scalby, each entrant must complete a 6 mile route by walking only – that means no running!

In 2023 the route was changed to avoid two busy and potentially dangerous road crossings. The journey from The Blacksmiths Arms now makes use of the old Whitby to Scarborough railway line (called the Cinder Track).

Pocket Pub Guides have produced a schematic map of the route based on their Scarborough Pocket Pub Guide (available at www.etsy.com )

A half pint (lager, bitter, squash or tap water) must be drunk in each of the pubs en route (your drink is included in the entrance fee), in the following order:

    • The Three Jolly Sailors, Burniston
    • The Red Lion, Cloughton
    • The Blacksmiths Arms, Cloughton
    • The Oak Wheel, Burniston

Under 18 entrants do not have to finish their drinks.

Trophies will be awarded for fastest resident walker (male, female and oldest) and the fastest non-resident walker (male and female), but disqualification looms if you don’t drink the half pints at each stop, or if you are caught running! Prize giving is at 2.30pm. Drinks will be available at the Plough from 9am (alcoholic ones from 10am) and food will be available from 12 noon to 3pm.

We welcome fancy dress and there are many prizes for the best fancy dress entrants. You can choose whether you want to go for a fast time or just enjoy a lovely walk.

Dogs are welcome. They need to be kept under control on a short lead. There a free dog treats at each pub and dogs can take part in the fancy dress and win a prize.

    Our 2026 Charities

This year’s main charity is Futurworks NY

Futureworks NY are a well-established and well-respected charity working within the Scarborough area to provide personalised support and guidance to local people. They offer a variety of programmes and projects that cater to different age groups and needs all with the aim of increasing wellbeing, opportunities and fulfilling potential. From Functional skills, Maths & English, furniture restoration to art sessions and one to one support, they help develop people’s confidence, skills and achievements with support and guidance at every step of the way. They help make a difference in people’s lives by finding their self-worth, increasing their skills and knowledge and by opening new opportunities that they often feel are out of reach.

Scalby Walk continues to support two other charities who help us organise and run the walk:
Newby and Scalby Library and Information Centre are run by volunteers working in partnership with North Yorkshire Council.
Scarborough Mates’ goal is to reduce social isolation and build a stronger community while sharing their skills to help others learn new ones

    Registration

Online registration will close at3pm on Sunday 5 April 2026 but you can register on the day from 8.45 am at the Plough.

  • Scalby Fair Thanks John White for Thirty-Five Years of Service

The President of the Scalby Fair, Geoff Dove, presented John with a gift to thank him for his many years of service to the committee – including as President and Chair. Many fair goers will recognise John as our BBQ chef on fair day but this task goes far beyond flipping burgers. John has kept abreast of hygiene regulations and each year has planned, shopped and organised volunteers for the stall. This is in addition to working tirelessly behind the scenes to make Scalby Fair such a great local event.

John and his team at last years’ Fair

    Thank you John
