REMEMBER ALL THIS? SCALBY WALK AND SCALBY FAIR 2024.
At the recent Scalby Fair AGM attendees were told of a superb year. Scalby Walk had been well supported despite an appalling weather forecast. Young, old and a goat enjoyed a vigorous walk and refreshment in the four pubs enroute. Scalby Fair was blessed with good weather and was one of the most successful ever. The Fair was extended over a bigger area, this enabled the inclusion of food stalls and a second entertainment stage. Most importantly there was a great atmosphere which all attendees enjoyed. Together with the other traditional activities of Fair week and the successful new Ceilidh the Fair was able to donate over £5,000 to good causes, another record.
During the year, using funds granted by YCBID, the Fair was able to refurbish stalls and renew other infrastructure. For example the simple purchase of a trolley reduced substantially setup time and effort.
In the coming year the Fair will look to build on this success with new initiatives. The new Chair, Nigel Sheppard, hoped that we could expand the number of volunteers and make the Fair more inclusive. To this end a new drop-in session will be held at which anybody can come and have a conversation about the Fair’s activities over a friendly drink. The first of these is proposed for Friday 15 November at 6pm in the Nag’s Head. We were so pleased to welcome some new members to the committee and look forward to sharing new ideas and fresh perspectives. Also – hopefully – having lots of fun in this community based venture.
In addition to the Chair, Bree Tarrant-Ives (Vice Chair), Peter Calow (Secretary), and John Armistead (Treasurer) were elected for the coming year. We look forward to Scalby Walk on Monday 21 April 2025 and Scalby Fair on Saturday 21 June 2025.
