Scalby Charity Walk 2022 Photos

21 April 2022 By Developer

Scalby Fair Charity Walk on Easter Monday 2022 was a roaring success. Over 216 walkers participated, far exceeding the previous record on the 60th Anniversary of the Walk of 125 participants.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to raising funds for our chosen charity, the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

We’ll have more news when final figures are tallied up.

Here’s a selection of photos, just in to show our intrepid walkers getting ready, and in action (click on any photo to see the gallery in sequence).

Scalby Walk 2022

6 February 2022 By Developer

Pre-registration has now closed – at 5pm on Sunday, 17 April. Registration and entry on Easter Monday is from 9.30am at the Plough, Scalby and is £12.00 (Adult) and £6.00 (Junior).

Please bring cash along on Easter Monday for your entry.

We look forward to seeing you.

About the Walk

Since 1959 the annual Scalby Walk has been raising money for local charities. What started out as a local bet has become a regular feature on the Scalby calendar every Easter Monday (well almost!).

2022 sees the return of the Walk, and the rules are simple:

Starting off at the Plough Inn, Scalby, at staggered start times from 10.30 am, each entrant must complete a 7 mile route by walking only – that means no running!

Download or view the Entry Rules and Regulations for the Original Scalby Walk below.

A half pint (lager, bitter, or squash) must be drunk in each of the pubs on route (your drink is included in the entrance fee) in the following order:

  • The Three Jolly Sailors, Burniston
  • The Red Lion, Cloughton
  • The Blacksmiths Arms, Cloughton
  • The Oak Wheel, Burniston

A map of the route can be viewed or downloaded below.

Trophies can be won for the first person back (male, female & oldest) and the fastest walker (male, female & oldest), but disqualification looms if you don’t drink the half pints at each stop, or if you are caught running! Prize giving is at 4.00 pm.

A family-friendly route is available which uses the Cinder Track route from the Oak Wheel, and avoids the section of the coastal road where the traffic can be busier.

Many walkers take part in fancy dress, which is optional, and prizes can be won for the best fancy dress and it all adds to the fun of the occasion. You can take the walk seriously and go for a competitive time, or just enjoy the walk with a few drinks along the way.

You can help support our nominated charity by getting sponsored. Over the years we have helped raise thousands of pounds to good causes. In 2022 we are supporting ‘Super Brad’s Pad’ holiday home for sick children which is been built in Scarborough by the Bradley Lowery Foundation. Download and print the Scalby Walk Sponsorship Form below.

Pre-registration closed at 5pm on Sunday, 17 April. You can register and enter on the day of the Walk from 9.30am at the Plough, Scalby and entry is £12.00 (Adult) and £6.00 (Junior).)

Please remember to bring cash with you on Easter Monday for your entry payment.
